The 'weekend' continued through today. It was long and busy. But all went fairly smooth for us. And I'm glad it's over. We have a couple of slow days and then...busy again.
The upcoming weekend Alpine will host the Cowboy Poerty Weekend. And the Trappings of Texas exibit. This is quite something. There are amazing craftsmen and artists who show their creations. Art; leather craft, such as saddles, boots; jewelry. This show co-incides with the cowboy poets who perform all weekend. It's quite an array of characters...musical and speakers...they host pancake and biscuiuts and gravy breakfasts as well as BBQ and chili in the evenings. It's very 'western in the west'. For more and interesting info on the Cowboy Poetry Gathering as well as the Trappings, check out these websites, http://www.cowboy-poetry.org/ and www.sulross.edu/~museum/trappings.html.
I wish I could could do things that were exceptional enough to show at something like that. Maybe someday. Practice practice practice.
It should be nice weather this weeked. We are packed. There is a poet, actually two, Joe Green and Mary Agape, who usually stay here and they do a performance but there was a death in his family and they'll not be coming. Last year we co-ordinated his 'show' with a fundraiser Husband did for the Family Crisis Center here in Alpine. It was very successful and fun.
Interesting tidbit - Silver almost double in value today. I think I need to assess my inventory. I had to reorder silver and gold findings after that UPS issue and I got eveything at almost what I had originally ordered it for. I need to check out earwires and chains tonight online. That is mostly what I use in sterling.
There are millions of birds outside on the feeder. The sun is shining and they are enjoying the afternoon. There are quite a few finches and several are deep red. They are so pretty.
Oh...the BBQ yesterday went well. Husband cooked the chicken and sausage...which was really tasty. I made a pasta salad and peach crisp (with the Frenda Vanilla ice cream). Husband made baked beans and a new cole slaw that he thought up...and it was fantastic. He used Napa cabbage which he sliced thin. For the dressing, he used honey, minced ginger, freshly ground coriander seed, rice wine vinegar, balsamic vinegar reduction, zest of an orange and lemon and I think that's it. He heated the dressing and poured it over the cabbage and let it marinate overnight. It was the best! The orange and lemon zest absolutely made the salad. Delish-i-ous! Everyone loved all the food. I think Husband's next cooking event will be the fundraiser on April 30. That will be a good one.
I need to fix something to eat...which means leftovers. And I think I'll sleep like a log after a shower later. I am tired tonight. Have a nice evening...
