I am sitting...quietly...eating supper. I could eat a lot more...but will restrain myself. I love to eat. I am a big eater. I salivate over the word...Buffet...conjures up all kinds of deserts in my head. I seriously think I need to make that Tres Leches cake. Yummy!! I don't know why I have this dessert fetish lately. I don't make them...because I would eat them. But I talk about them...incessantly. Today the dessert conversation included 'poke and pour cakes'...Boston Cream Pie, Fudge Brownie with Vanilla Ice Cream drizzled with Hot Fudge...topped out with real New York Cheesecake. Big Fat cheesecake...Kill me!!!
I plan to make another hat for Francine tonight. Another strike on the list. I see nothing coming on TV.
It looks like rain all around us. We did have several heavy claps of thunder earlier this afternoon, but nothing fell from the sky. Maybe later. It is predicted.
I want to contact to our local newspaper and offer to write about places I go into around this town of Alpine...and complain. You know I love to complain...and this would let me do it legitimately. I would just write a paragraph or two...stating the obvious. For example:
Last Sunday, we ordered lunch at Pizza Hut. I, personally, called in the order. Let's see...it was a Personal Pan Pepperoni pizza, a family size order of bread sticks with Marinara sauce, an individual serving of Chicken Alfredo and a, individual serving of Lasagna. Done. It would be ready in 25 minutes. Great. Off we went because we had to go to ALCO first (right next door to Pizza Hut).
FLASH!! We are at the counter to pick up our food. Server says...We tried to call you. We have no Lasagna. Let's see...they have my cell phone number...cell phone is on my belt...never rang...you be the judge. Wait a second...did they run out of lasagna after I hung up? They had it when I called my order in! Consequently, we leave sans llasagna. We were only at the counter for a couple of minutes...but it was long enough to see how incredibly filthy this place was! The preparation area!! I'm not just talking the dirty floor, which is bad enough...I am talking about sauce running down the counters that had been there for quite a while, visible dirt on the carts, dried up lettuce and crusts under the counters, but still in plain view...I'm telling you...This wasn't just the typical daily mess. We were disgusted enough that it will be a while before we eat there again. This lack of cleanliness behavior is also typical for McDonald's here. It's just that you don't SEE it when you go through the drive through or have food delivered. Yuck...'nough said.
Hmmmm....still no rain. But I hear thunder!! Need a shower. I can feel the pizza sauce....bye!

creative flexibility
(Sung to the the tune...Papa's Got a Brand New Bag...)
Francine Has Got a Brand New Hat...!! oooooohhh yeeeaaaahhhh! I was busy busy. Crocheted it whilst watching episodes of Adam 12. How can it get any better...Wait! I know!! Whilst drinking an ice cold Orange Crush. Yessiiireee! That, my friend...is Euphoria!!
I am sitting here with Husband, waiting to watch a movie, listening to him jabber on the phone about hay. Ho Hum!! He is in a state of recovery. He has lymphoma, and has had tumors removed and is scheduled for more surgery. On Friday, he noticed unusual swelling under his arm, combined with fever heat and became concerned. It is mandatory now that in dealing with our illustrious Veteran's Affairs Department that you contact a Nursing Triage Service prior to seeing any physician or ER for an unscheduled appointment, to get 'permission' for treatment. So Husband spent a couple of hours doing this last night.Consequently, he went to the ER here in Alpine this morning where he 'went under the knife' to have a minor surgery. One of the tumors chose to 'explode' and Doctor chose to eliminate it. Husband was there until around 5 PM and came home with his armpit encased in bandages and drainage tubes.
Don't say...Oh my God! How gross! You know I have to share everything with y'all !! At least someone at that hosptial was capable of dealing with it immediately...rather that wait out the VA to go to Albuquerque. He will have a follow up here, but local DR is contacting Husnabd's Primary care Physician in ALBQ for consult.
Lucky me. I, Nurse Crachett, will get to rip off the amazingly sticky bandage and cause enormous amounts of pain to Husband in order to change dressing. I am counting the minutes!!
On a more serious note...I am amazed at how quickly this developed...in only a couple of days. It makes me nervous. I have sympathy itching in my armpits!!
I got the deer antlers in the mail today. I am very pleased as they are the perfect size. I'll get my band saw out tomorrow and hopefully cut them up after work. You never know how dense they are until you cut them, and the denser...the better. Makes for a better painting surface. I love to paint.
I think I'll close and watch the movie and relax. It was a long and frustrating day. See you later!!

Plucked from the headlines..........
(Did you miss me??)
PLUCKED FROM THE HEADLINES....
Human remains found in Castle Hills!
Yep...that's where my mother-in-law lives alright! Right smack dab in Castle Hills! For those who don't know, Castle Hills in located within the boundaries of San Antonio, Texas. An arm...a human arm...here's the last line of the article....
"'Pardaen said he didn't rule out the possibility of a homicide."
Do ya think??? Oh...and they don't know the gender or age yet. What? Can't tell by the rings...like a tree?? Strange...
Naturally I called my mother-in-law and told her she needed to find a better hiding place for those deadbeat non-paying tenants that she rents her houses too! Hey...the woman has scruples!! She chuckled...
Many moons ago, MIL ran for County Commissioner in Bexar County, (San Antonio), Texas. Although I know she was content sitting in her [Real Estate] office, doing what she is amazing at...running her business, making decisions and looking good for the camera, it was, after all, an enticing proposition. Let's see...would she or wouldn't she...She did. She filed to run and run she did! My Father-in-Law became her 'campaign manager' and her campaign was in full swing. He had placards, signs, stickers and various other items emblazoned with 'Condra for County Commissioner' printed and distributed all over town...well...in her area I should say. Anyway...Husband was working for the Bexar County Sheriff's Department at the time. He would pack the horse trailer full of yard signs and several of his cohorts and set out on his merry way...on a political mission of epic proportions.
Part of MIL's district included the South East side of San Antonio. Husband had, how shall I put it, 'made contact' with various constituents in this area and he visited many of them during this time and advised that he was, in fact, putting a sign in their yard...and that they would be voting for his Mother!! I wonder how many of them still even had voting provileges...but that's another story!
Well...unfortunately, she didn't win...but we sure had a good time going to all the political parties! And after the election, an honest attempt was made to retrieve the yard signs. I have often wondered how many of Husband's strategically placed might be there to this day!!
Several years later, Robert Stack, who was the host of Unsolved Mysteries, came to San Antonio to witness the unearthing, such that it was, of a well at the Alamo. MIL was the President of the Alamo at that time. (She is quite the woman!!). The show aired in two episodes...leaving the viewers breathless...Was there really gold at the bottom of this well! Bodies! Documents!! Oh wait!! Perhaps that was where the missing 'Condra for Commissioner' signs were!!! Holy shit!! SOLVED MYSTERY!! But...no. Nothing. Zip. Zilch. Just dirt. Oh well.
So...now there is another mystery. The arm. The Castle Hills arm. The plot thickens...
I thought it was going to rain again this evening...but nothing yet. We had a nice storm last night.
I've been busy the past few days. Too tired to write. Sorry. But I did take a couple photos of Francine.
I was asking her where she wanted to be in the yard when I felt someone staring at me. I turned around...slowly...and a lady who was checking into one of the rooms was watching me. She was standing there...suitcases in hand...watching me. Jesus! Like she'd never seem anyone taking photos of an albino head with a sun hat on...being stuck in a bush of lantana!
Can you imagine! I just picked up Francine and stuck her in a tree....
and then in my pot of flowers. She didn't care. She told me not to take it to heart...so I won't. She said she bet that staring old woman was jealous and wished she had her very own albino head to haul around with ther. I agree!
My Aunt Betty sent me a great canvas bag from MAINE!! and I have decided to keep some of Francine's yarn in it. She's happy...but she was getting tired...
Have a nice night!!

Fred Flintstone's bathroom wall
The showers are done. One has cobalt blue tile around the shower handle (shield). The other one....well, let me repeat...Fred Flintstone's bathroom wall. When I say we had to use tile that we had, that's EXACTLY what I meant. I encircled the shiny chrome shield that encircles the handle to the shower itself...with chunky gray tile. It's actually quite pretty...the tile, that is...but the wall...that's entirely another story. Unique! Yeah! That's the word! Unique...in that Fred Flintstone sorta way. I refuse to take a picture of it! Oh well...it's done.
I am watching 12 Angry Men with Henry Fonda. I have never seen it. Reminds me of a John Grisham style story. I love Henry Fonda.
I need to wash clothes tomorrow. Oh, by the way, I brought my underwear home. Just thought you'd like to know.
Yesterday was a bonus Old Lady's Day at Beall's. Guess what? I didn't buy anything. Know why? I don't need anything. I was going to get a light hooded jacket, but they don't have any. Not even in the men's department. I'll look at ALCO. I only need something light and I might as well get one for a good price. I have bought stuff on line (DUH!) from Hanes and they might have something. Since I don't dress up for work...it's senseless to get anything expensive...I'm bound to splash bleach on it anyway. Light gray sounds right.
I washed my comforter and duvet cover a little while ago. It sure is a pain in the ass putting that cover back on. It's so big! No...I haven't cut it yet. I will....one of these days.
I have lost my motivation. I can't find it anywhere. My list...is listless...idle...kaput...at a standstill...ceased to exist. I was doing so well. I even got a new crafty catalog in the mail today. It sits here in front of me...pages ruffling in the breeze of the AC...beckoning me to open it...Look at ME!! See what cute ideas I have to show you...C'mere!!
Shut up you stupid catalog....can't you see I'm writing AND watching a movie! Damn! I can only do so much!! I am only ONE WOMAN!! ONE ANGRY WOMAN!! Holy shit! This movie is really getting to me!!
Actually...the movie IS very good. I think I'll close and finish watching it since I'm doing more watching than typing anyway...See you tomorrow!

Word of the day...Strontium.
Strontium.
Strontium is a chemical element with the symbol Sr and the atomic number 38.
Build bone mass with strontium.
Strontium supplement pills for osteoporosis. Strontium Citrate- -"Strontium Bone Support"
Strontium Citrate supplement is an organic, stable strontium form (not the radioactive strontium-90 isotope!).
Word of the day suggestion submitted my BFFMS. I knew it was a good thing if she suggested it. And I am sooo glad she was 'healthy' inclined and not 'glow in the dark' inclined!
You never know about her, though. She sent me 'kagel'. Sure I read the entire definition and explanation...but it was the last sentence - Kegel exercises may also increase sexual gratification - see what I mean! Perhaps that's why I looked up Strontium. Curiosity. Simple curiosity. (smile MS)
I'm trying to find something to write about. Not just the hum drum daily crap...something interesting. Let's see. Know what had for lunch? Terrible food. We went to the Stripes store, formerly Town & Country, and I thought...well...I can eat the chicken fajitas (with no tortilla), beans and rice. Yeah that sounds good. So I waited patiently in line and when it got to me...the rice looked like shit. So...I got green beans. They were the best part of the meal.
I know what you are thinking...why would I even buy that kind of food at a convenience store? AKA QUESTION OF THE DAY!!
Answer: I was hungry and everything else looked like crap. I should have gotten everything else.
Next time I'll get a corn dog and suffer in silence. It's funny, Stripes has just started serving actual lunch plates...they are only $3.99 for an entree and 2 sides (know I know why). They do have a fresh fruit 'bar'. That's what I got the first time we went there, and was going to get it again today, but it looked very picked over and unattractive. Hence the chicken fajitas. Perhaps if they had cooked the onions and had not had tomato slices in it...yeah, tomato slices...and the chicken had at least been sauteed a little to resemble fajita style chicken rather than boiled looking...I know! It's my own fault! I looked at it! I should have known better...blah blah blah...
Don't get lunch there. Case closed.
Dammit! I left my underwear in the laundry room! Some of those unmentionables I just don't put in the dryer, I hang up behind the ironing board in the laundry room. They are still there. They should be safe until tomorrow...if I remember them then.
This was today's dilemma. Remember that shower thing? Tiling and all? The screw issue? OK. Today I get new screws...a silly millimeter smaller...but too short!. Not my fault. They were the longest ones they had. So...we go to McCoy's and I buy a dowel looking thing that is like a very, very long screw. It's threaded...I can't remember what you call it...and a package of hex nuts. I will make my own. So I did. What a royal pain in the ass. Something that should be so simple.
I'll finish in there tomorrow...I hope.
The Cayanosa/Pecos cantaloupes are here!! These melons are renowned for their excellent flavor and quality. The soil, elevation and weather conditions are the contributing factors to the melon's success. Husband brought home 3 tonight. They are cut up and chillin' as we speak. The aroma is like air freshener. I wonder if they make a cantaloupe candle?? Yum!!
I am reading 'A Girl Named Zippy'. (Thanks MS for the suggestion) It's hysterical. I'm not trying to be a smart ass...but I see a lot of me in her and vise versa. Just reading this book makes me think of so many stories about growing up. In the Prologue, she mentions stores in her town, one of them being Grant's.
We had a W.T. Grants, Mammoth Mart, Zayres, (Wal-Marts were non existent back then). In my hometown...let's see...if I was heading 'downtown' from my house at 301 Church Street...I would encounter...the Baptist Church, Universalist Church, St. Teresa's Catholic Church, (guess why it was named CHURCH STREET), Memorial Hall, Wheeler's Funeral Home, American Legion, the Library (underneath it housed the city offices) a beauty shop, the Golding's had their first antique shop here, but there was fire and they relocated next door to me, Dr. Hathaway's Office, a photo place (?), Burgess Ice Cream shop (which later became Paul's Pizza until IT burned and he relocated next to Michaud's Grocery Store), the Barber Shop, the Cinderella Dress Shop, Stowell's Drug store (he also had stacks of comic books and used paperbacks...this is where I bought Fanny Hill! Can you imagine! Mr. Stowell was 100 years old when I first met him!), Fossett's Five and Dime (mercantile), True's Drugstore, Handley's Shoe Store, First National Grocery Store, Post Office, Bank, Hamilton's Insurance, a jewelry store, Blake's Hardware, Michaud's Grocery Store...I know I have forgotten some. I can see them in my head, but can't think right this minute. One shop that was near the bank was a short order restaurant/cafe where we would eat french fries and gravy and vanilla cokes after school. Past Michaud's Grocery store was another restaurant...Dot's ? or the Coffeepot? I can't remember...but we used to eat blueberry pie and drink coffee there on Saturday afternoons.
At Burgess Ice Cream Shop...you could get hamburgers and grilled cheese sandwiches and they had an ice cream called a Pine Cone (Maine is the Pine Tree State!) It was a chocolate coated vanilla ice cream on a stick. If you were lucky enough to get a stick that was red on the tip, you got a free ice cream. It was very exciting...
I love memory lane. It's bittersweet. I think I'll read for a bit and see you tomorrow!! Nite..

A busy day
Hello.
Not a lot in the cleaning department today. Thank God. But we had some 'tilin' to do'! I was trying to install the shield around the new shower handle and low and behold...the screws were too long. Damn... if I had a dime for every time I heard that! Oops..sorry. Anyway...the screws they give you in the box mean nothing around here. Everything is recessed into the wall...gotta build a better mousetrap...you know what I mean. So we went to the hardware store and got longer ones. Guess what...they didn't work. I couldn't get them to twist in properly to the brass fittings and didn't want to f**k it up. Soooo...rather than force it (like I would normally do...) we'll just go get some different ones tomorrow. I have no idea why they wouldn't fit correctly. And I personally don't care. I did tile around the 'hole' and only have to screw the shield on tomorrow and put the handle on. I am tiling around the base of the shower, too, just to make it look better in there. And then we will do the same thing to the adjoining room.
The closet was messed up where Stan the Plumber had to beat out the concrete around the old shower manifold. We really don't like cleaning up someone else's mess...but we need the rooms back on line.
If we had the tile and the time, I would redo the kitchen counter and back splash. But, alas! We have neither.
I am nursing a Coke that is accompanying my Excedrin Migraine medication. It's preventative medicine. The mildew smells and dust from those rooms today is making some head pain. Better to be safe than sorry.
Mmmmmm...there was an ad on TV for Maxwell House coffee! It looked very, very good. I haven't had coffee in quite a while and that was very appealing.
I need to eat something and will hopefully be back later. Something more than oatmeal tonight but not sure what yet. Later.........

Cautious work day...
I went to work with a migraine. It seems to be on the waning side...but I had NO symptoms! I have never had 'heat' as a factor...but it's possible. Aside from being screaming hot...it was a beautiful day. Barometric pressure not active...I'm just not sure.
It was a very busy day today, but we had a new girl and it went so much smoother - faster. The next day or two will be less intense so we can catch up on a few things. We have to. Next week, for several days straight will be way too busy!
I haven't done anything crafty for a couple of days, and won't tonight. Not going to push any eye or neck strain.
The other day, for whatever reason, I read an article about cleansing diets. This one was a winner. Lemon juice, maple syrup, cayenne pepper and water. I guess it's a favorite of my best friends, Demi and Ashton, who swear by it! And then I read another article on why you shouldn't do it...and the side effects. I think it would be smarter to eat a whole Ex-Lax cake.
I have been doing well on my "what not to eat" regimen. I'm trying to decide on what to eat tonight. The girls got pizza for lunch...and it looked wonderful! I would have eaten a piece ordinarily...but I wasn't risking the cheese (no need to feed the headache). I had a salad instead. Filling and it tasted good. I'm not really hungry right now...but I need to eat something so I can pop a few Excedrin Migraine.
I'm in a 'I need to clean this room' mood. Not today, though. As you know...I love those Rubbermaid tubs...and... organization. I cleaned my drawers out a few days ago (that doesn't sound right...) and reluctantly gave some stuff away. Work clothes mostly. I have enough T-shirts in this room that if I didn't wash for 3 weeks I wouldn't run out. But it's also a space issue. Here's how my brain works...It's already almost the end of July, so I need to start sorting out winter stuff! Long sleeved stuff. AHA! Those shirts are already in a...you guessed it...Rubbermaid tub...in storage.
I think I'll go and eat some oatmeal. Yummy! May or may not be back later. Have a great nite!!

Oh what a beautiful morning!!!!
It was a bee-u-tee-ful day today. Hotter than a mother...but a beautiful West Texas day! Got some long delayed stuff done...very satisfying. Got a plan for tomorrow...even better.
I am sitting here writing this now so I can cut some stuff out. Gotta stick with the list...Have you ever had ideas while you were sleeping? I did. I sketched them out and have made the patterns already. I think this is going to be a' bear and moose ornament' year.
There is absolutely nothing on TV. I am watching some made for TV thing, but haven't gotten far enough into it to know if it's worth my time. Plus...when I am cutting things out...it's not a good idea to take my eyes off what I am cutting.
All of my parsley drowned. Why, you ask? AKA QUESTION OF THE DAY!!!
Because I planted it in a rock planter that caught all the rain water...2+" the day before yesterday! I think there are 2 poor pitiful stragglers in there. I should move it...don't you think? I'll pick up another packet of seeds tomorrow and try it again. I am a plant murderer.
I just couldn't get into the made for TV movie but the new 'DC Cupcake' show is on. I'll watch it for a while. Oh well...time to cut. See you tomorrow!

Ghirardelli means mmmmmmmmmmmmgood!
One of life's little pleasures.Ghirardelli Chocolate Squares - Dark Chocolate with White Mint Filling...oh yeah....melt in your mouth decadence. Mmmmmm...tastes like....TWO!!
You know what? I came home today with the full intentions of being productive. Hasn't happened yet. Kinda got a headache playing around in the back of my skull. This piece of chocolate could either kill it or cure it. There is a little thunder going on out there...perhaps it's a barometric pressure issue. I have had migraines all my life, and can read the 'signs', but don't necessarily pay attention to them. Don't have any of those...just a headache.
I need to take a shower, but don't feel like getting my hair wet...ever have those days?
I had to refill the bird feeder. I guess since the weather was so bad yesterday evening, they stayed in! They are certainly making up for it today. You know Tom just loves to watch his birds out the window....so I guess it's up to me to keep him happy. There seems to be a heavy influx of hummingbirds around here, also. I am sure it's the abundance of flowering shrubs and flowers since all the rain last week. Those little suckers are zipping around everywhere.
We are watching the Police Women of Memphis right now. It an interesting show. The commercials are driving me nuts. They are all about the Cake Boss, Ultimate Cakes, DC Cupcakes...Now I want a cupcake. I haven't even made the chocolate chip cookies yet! I can't even imagine eating one of those cakes. Number One...I don't like fondant. Number Two...it would be like getting a gingerbread house. They are so beautiful to look at...I just don't want to eat it! I would be eating the spare cake that they cut off and throw out...dipping it in the butter cream frosting bowl.
Holy crap... I'm almost out of battery! I'll plug in and see you later! Nite!!

Big FAT rain!!
It rained a little while ago. Holy shit! Did it rain!! Straight down and very heavy. Lightning strikes were close...huge claps of thunder. We must have been in that 30% area! It's still ugly looking to the west..maybe there will be more later. Who knows?
Do you know why I am going to hell? AKA Question of the day!!!!!!!!!!!
Answer: I do. I think evil thoughts. Not like death and dismemberment crap...but sometimes the 'what goes around, comes around crap'. I seriously feel that I periodically go through my 'come around phase'...and I'm sure it's justified (painful to admit...) But I sometimes, just off the top of my head, not pre-meditated you understand, just sort of wish ill will on some people. Not all the time and not to everybody...just those smart asses with attitude. Don't act like you haven't done the same thing...it's human nature! But I think that's why I will go to hell. So there.
I'm cutting some felt out tonight. Remember the ornament patterns? Those. I used to do this religiously. Cut out all the felt...place the pieces in zip lock bags. Place those, along with thread, needles and scissors in a canvas travel bag and I was ready to go at a moments notice. This was back in the day when Husband had to drive miles and miles to the VA for Dr appointments. I would sew on the road. It's AMAZING how much you can get done! I decided to go back to that plan. At least stuff will be ready to sew when I get motivated.
I really need to dig out those bears.
Paused for a bit to shower and get comfortable.
I am planning an easy-r day tomorrow. Work yes...but not as busy as today. It was a killer for a Wednesday. I need to check tile inventory as I need to re-do two showers. I don't think there is enough for a kitchen counter top even though I'd like to re-tile the kitchen in one of the units. Since we were working on the shower anyway, we went ahead and replaced the faucet in the kitchen. Might as well finish the counter and backsplash if I can find what I need.
Bobbie has been making curtains. I am not in a sewing mood. Not that kind of sewing, anyway.
I think I waited too long to get back to this...It's 11:00 and I think I'll get some rest. See you tomorrow!

There IS a doctor in the house!!
RX UPDATE!!!
Dr. Rene said..."Well, with an addiction you must understand it first before the proper steps can be taken. Alas! Since this is a "mindless game" I'm afraid there is no hope!!!!!!!!!!! So of course the only thing to be done is play until you understand it. I certainly hope that this has helped you out."
My decision: After reading and re-reading the above captioned statement of truth...I have come to the following conclusion. Not winning at Bubble Town won't make me go out of my mind (mindless). I'm THERE!! And I understand that I need to place restrictions on myself. I have set a goal. 150,000 point limit...then I quit the game. Yep...I mean it. And I'm not that far from it. My highest score so far is 136,500 (or close to it). 150,000. That's it. Oh...and if you smart asses out there play this game and make 150,000...right away...I don't want to hear it. OK?? Got it?? I mean it.
The online shopping...(by the way, I got the duvet cover today! Beautiful!!)...dig this...
Dr. Rene says..."As for the shopping, I believe that is called Retail Therapy!!"
Did you hear that! I am already in therapy!! This day just keeps getting better!!
Husband is making chicken and dumplings. It's smells great...I am craving chocolate chip cookies. With macadamia nuts...and white and milk chocolate, chocolate chips.
I was watching 7th Heaven this morning (don't ask) and the 'mom' offered a plate of cookies for information. Chocolate chip cookies. HUGE chocolate cookies. I fell in love. I think I have all the ingredients. Yummy!
I am making Christmas ornament patterns today. I found that 'to-do' list and am taking it seriously. It's July!! I think we had this same conversation around this time last year. Time for the countdown to the Christmas Craft Show! I really don't have to change the items that I want to make..since I didn't make them all last year...and I feel what I have on the list will be very sellable this year. I make things that no one else does. However, I have a feeling that there will be a lot more of Francine's hats there this year. I seriously need to make her some scarves to match.
And then there are those Teddy Bears.....
I might be back later...need to eat something!

I am an addict...
Yes...I am an addict. It's painful. I never thought I would ever admit such an embarrassing pathetic flaw in myself...but I must. Perhaps I can see the error of my ways by going public. Perhaps I can seek the help that I so very much need and desire...Perhaps...and I know this is lot to ask...but perhaps one of you, my dear, dear friends...can lead me down the path of redemption.
How? How...you ask...can I possibly help??
Here's how. You can find out who invented 'Bubble Town' and tell them to take that Son of a Bitching game off the internet!! It's driving me crazy! I can't stop!! I can't stop...I tell ya!! It's killing me! I'm weak. I have it on favorites and BAM!! I click on!!!
You ask...why don't you take it off! AHA! Question of the day!!
Answer - CUZ I LIKE IT!!!!
I used to be that way with 'Text Twist'. Sure, I still play it every now and then...but I was never so consumed with it as I am with Bubble Town. It's a mindless and dumb game...which is exactly why I like it! But I mean it...I am addicted to it. Just like a drink...'oh, maybe just one more'...that's how I am with this...'oh, just one more game'...There has to be a support group out there somewhere.....
I know...it could be worse...I could really, really like...um...wait a second...I do! I love on line shopping!!! Shit! There's NO hope for me!!!
I'll be back later....(guess what I'm doing???)

waiting for pasta to cook
I am hungry so I am eating some leftover marinara and meatballs (Husband's creation) and having it with Soba Buckwheat noodles. Another Amazon 'especialitie'. They are quite good. They really have no distinguishing taste...so the marinara is the flavor. As they cook, I write.
Remember the new girl? Haven't seen her. 'Nough said.
Weird day. Overcast, sunny, cloudy, spitting rain and steam coming up from the ground. Humid.
Busier than we expected...but we got a lot of extra stuff done. Why is that? AHA!!! Question of the day!!
Why is that...??
Answer - I don't know. (This question and answer thing is a lot easier than I thought!!)
Comment - (new addition to Q&A - aka Q&A&C) This comment pertains only to working here...housekeeping (Yuck!) OK...A couple of days ago when we checked the guest register, there were only 2 rooms leaving. EXCELLENT on a Saturday! Unheard of!! We came in today...NINE rooms leaving. What the hell....!!
I know what you are thinking...of course I realize that people might make reservations...Of course I realize that people might walk in off the street (and even drive if they're lucky), some might leave early... but my theory is...when I look in that book and see only 2 outs...that's what I expect on that day!! Unfortunately, my life is full of disappointments.
First...no new girl - Second...nine outs. Shit.
Anyway...back to 'Why is that'...even though we were unexpectedly busy since we had additional problems...a water/shower issue...washing machine problem...pain in the ass guest who felt he had been deliberately neglected and was demanding a refund...at 3:00 in the afternoon...for room he didn't pay for! And kept bitching and bitching...He was with a wedding party (bet he'll have a lot to say at the reception!) and he seemed to be the 'mouthy bastard' of the bunch...he ultimately left...bitching...but the rest of the clan stayed here. Who cares. He was a 'stay over' and the plan was to go and tidy up the room when he and his family left. After all, they were going to a wedding. We didn't know what time the wedding was! Oh, wait...none of my business! The other part of the clan was in the room next door. They set their towels outside for replacement and when we went over to get them, 'nice man' said said that we don't have to go in either room again today. That was cool. Both of these rooms have been here for 3 days. I digress, but you already know I am famous for skipping around the story...
On the first day, wife of mouthy bastard went to the office and said they didn't want anyone in their room, BUT they needed towels and would be back to pick them up later. Big f**king deal. We don't want to go in your GD room anyway. Sooo....as with our policy, we put 3 full sets of towels in a plastic bag and set it outside in the chair. When they came back 6 hours later...they took the towels in.
Day two...'Nice man' in adjoining room spoke for both rooms again by saying that 'nobody needed nothin' and the rooms were a mess...and not to worry'. Ain't gotta tell me twice!.
Today, 'mouthy bastard' went up to the office, even though he knew we were the ones to speak to, and said they needed their sheets changed. Jennifer came out and told us, and we said (with venom and daggers) well he can wish in one hand and shit in...yeah, whatever...when and if they ever leave, we'll go over. Remember when I said there were NINE rooms leaving...well, there were also NINE rooms staying, therefore equally as much of a pain in the ass to 'tidy up'. You do the same thing as an out..make the beds, change towels, take out trash, mop because it's friggin' muddy...makes for a busy day...
Oh oh...'mouthy bastard' has evidently left and come back and we didn't see him. Now he goes up to the office and starts the bitching. Those maids...HALT!! Hold it right there, f**ker! I ain't nobodys MAID!! I don't even want to be your housekeeper! Ask Me!! Anyway...'those maids never came to my room to change those sheets that my daughter puked in...Huh?? I never heard that part of the story before...that's cuz he never said it before! Good God...we aren't heartless! Accidents happen...but knock off that attitude. Then...he says...'and I don't have any water! This place has sucked since I got here! I'm never coming back here! (you got that right...you are definitely at the top of the 'you ain't coming back here' A list).
This is where 'I want my money back' started. Someone else had paid for his room for FOUR days...and today...he becomes Prince Charming on crack. It was explained that we had a broken pipe/water emergency...the water to ALL the rooms had been off for maybe 20 minutes and this prick is ranting like he's spitting up sand balls...
This conversation had taken place in the office. I had walked to my room to get my Dremel for the maintenance guy to use to cap off this water problem as quickly as possible. I have to walk past this room and I hear 'nice man' ask 'mouthy bastard'...what about the water...and I turn and say...'it should be back on in 20 minutes'. Great! says 'nice man'. I haven't heard any of the story yet, or I gar-un-tee I would have made face to face contact with mouthy bastard'.
Then I hear story. Mouthy bastard and family pack up...bye bye now!
Moral of the story. If you, apparently, are having bad day perhaps because your daughter pukes all over the bed...calm down and explain yourself to someone who can help you and all will be taken care of. Don't shoot off like a friggin roman candle and think all around you are mind readers.
How does this long whiny story relate to 'Why is that?'.
When we come to work...we never know what kind of shit (literally) we are going to encounter. Even with setbacks and totally unexpected crap...we aways manage to get our job done and more. There is never a dull moment. We are dedicated and dependable employees. Ask us!
I need to eat. See ya later!

Q & A - day 2
Question - When will the rain stop?
Answer - I don't know.
I have been reprimanded. MS is my BFF. And I mean that sincerely. Not just Super good friend. I have no idea where those words even came from! I have 6 BFF's (who are not immediate family...those are different.) Most definitely equally as special...just different. I need to stop explaining...I know what I mean...I'm sure you do too.
I have 6 BFF's. One from Montana (MS) - One from Wyoming (RMc) -Four from Texas (Mumsy, AL, BF and SQ) These are friends that I can tell my deepest darkest secrets to, laugh insanely with, cry to, cry with, neglect them for no reason but they know I love and think of them each and every day, pee next to (but not on) and love unconditionally. I am so very proud to call them BFF's and hope they feel the same way about me. I guess they would also be my Reader's Digest Unforgettable Characters, too.
When I first heard the term, BFF, I thought it meant...and you know how I think...Best F**ing Friend! Hey!! The letters are right!! But I like Best Friends Forever much better. I can even say it now without having a visual of Paris Hilton!! I am most definitely not the most computer savvy person with abbreviations and and whatever you call 'BFF' terms...when I first saw 'lol' I thought it meant 'lots of love'...well! I did! I couldn't imagine why someone would use 'lol' so much in an email where it just didn't fit! Then I found out it meant 'laugh out loud'. Who woulda thunk it!!
Hey...I can't even text without spelling out every word. I have a long way to go!
By the way...I didn't finish that book last night. Maybe tonight. Here's a couple great lines from the book:
Sh**t My Dad Says...by Justin Halpern
On Telemarketer Phone Calls
"Hello?...Fuck you."
On Getting a Job as a Cook at Hooters
"You, my good man, are not as dumb as I first fucking suspected."
Now I'm sure you understand why I like the humor in the book.
I am thinking I should write a blog about housekeepers...housekeeping and the people you come in contact with. Could get nasty. I need to see if there is one on line already and if so, vent to them.
I hate housekeeping. I didn't sign on for this stint! I have said this before. Numerous times. I like remodeling and tearing stuff up. I have counters to tile...floors to stain...murals to paint. Not make a friggin' bed. I don't want to make my own bed...wait...yes I do. Know why? I just ordered and new duvet cover. Scratch that.
I think I am going to get my hair cut next week...or the week after. I received a generous gift today of a 'whatever I want at Eva's day'. Since my hair is always up and stupid looking, I need to think about this. Hmmmmmmmmmmmm..........................
Well...gotta go. I need a shower and shave. Stay dry!!

Questions and Answers
I had thought about adding the 'Word of the Day' to my posts...inspired by my super good friend, MS, and this would be appropriate since it wouldn't be a daily word...hence...no pressure! However, here's another idea. Inspired once again by, you guessed it, MS.

I want to hear more about the hair in the fan episode.
Brilliant! Questions and answers! And you know I will try to be as precise in my explanation as I can be. (Maybe one day I'll tell you what the first 'word of the day' was going to be! It's a corker!!)
OK...I was bent over in the laundry room trying to find a carpet runner to put in a room. These runners are located underneath the shelves of bedspreads and pre-packaged sheets for roll away beds. Unfortunately, these shelves are behind a floor fan strategically placed between a huge cardboard box (filled with 40 of the ugliest drapes you have ever seen) which is also used as the 'stand' for the microwave oven and...a portable baby bed. Get the picture?
I rummaged around, bent over, looking for these carpet things and when I stood up, oh yeah, I forgot to mention that there is an air conditioner in the window behind the box with the ugly curtains/microwave stand...that was blowing full blast, which in turn, when I stood up, blew my hair into the fan. The oscillating fan. Take my word for it...this is a recipe for disaster.
Naturally, I was in there by myself and I was flailing around trying to find the knob to turn the fan off...it took a minute...while simultaneously pulling my head back out of the fan...which was... oscillating! I am missing a few hairs.
Now you ask, why didn't you just move some of that crap out of the way and make it easier on yourself to bend over and get the carpets?
I didn't think about it. Case closed.
Have I moved anything since?
Nope.
Here's a good one...were there any carpet pieces?
Nope.
This is my life. I won't tell you about the dog shit story.
There. That was day one...Q & A.
I am reading a new book. It's called 'Sh*t My Dad Says'. by Justin Halpern. It is very funny. It's about a young man who writes down the very funny things his Dad says as wel as short recounts of significant moments in his life. In the preface, he says that his friends told him he should start a blog about his Dad's off the wall, but incredibly practical, almost one liners are...so he did. I believe he also has a twitter following...I haven't checked it out yet, but I think I might. It's a small but entertaining book, I am almost done and I wish it would go on longer! Great light reading.
Did no craft stuff...ain't gonna do no craft stuff...just gonna relax tonight.
We had a really nice rain today and the sun is shining brilliantly now. It's around 6:45 pm. I think we have an 80% chance tomorrow. And I also saw that there was more rain (a tropical depression?) coming into the tip of South Texas again! I also saw that people were being evacuated in Laredo where one of the International Bridges was also closed due to extreme flooding....and now they are going to get slammed again! We get flooding here, also, but so far the worst thing plaguing us is massive amounts of green grass, mud, flies and those creepy ass water bugs!
I think I'll finish this book and take a shower. Not necessarily in that order. Have a nice night!

I hated today...
It was just a bad day. That's all. Everything I touched turned to shit. I was clumsy, I tripped on everything, hit every bone in my body, got my hair caught in the fan, stepped in dog crap...just a shitty day! Tomorrow has to be a lot better! I'm planning on it.
The best thing that happened to me was a hot shower. At least I smell good now.
Guess what I did? I made patterns from the pictures in the catalog that had the great felt ornament ideas in it! Amazing, huh! I've been looking on line for more crocheted or knitted hat patterns, too. I want a rolled brimmed crocheted hat. I have seem the pattern before, and I think I even saved it on my other computer. They are neat looking hats. Last year I got some great chenille yarn (like the picture of the green hat I have posted) and it should be coming on sale again pretty soon so I want a few dozen skeins of cool colors. I think I got Forest Green, Burgundy, Periwinkle Blue and Black last order. That particular yarn will make that hat look amazing. I made a few crocheted flowers last year that would look great on the side. We'll see how rambunctious I get.
I even printed off more earring cards today to put in my inventory. I need to order some more business card stock. It's seems everything I did in the house today didn't hurt me! Oh yeah...I defrosted the freezer and survived that!
I added a few things to my to do list(s) - as well as crossing some off, so all in all it was a good day. I think I'll sign off now and get some sleep. I didn't realize it was almost midnight...see ya tomorrow!

I forgot...
Here is my favorite part of the newspaper Thank You from my friend, Kareva Mulholland who was the organizer of the Fiesta del Sol Craft show...
"Finally, kudos to our committee members — Chuy Spencer, Jan Moeller, Ginny Brotherton, Lucy Guajardo, Deborah “Ra” Romero, Mike Davidson, Carol Fairlie and Brenda Condra. These people work very hard to enrich our community, to breathe life into the arts, and to grace us with their energy, wonderful ideas, invaluable resources and presence.
Thank you Big Bend country, for all that you are and for all that you continue to be and do!
Kareva Mulholland, Fiesta del Sol Organizer, Alpine"
Makes me feel good.

Twas a bit humid today...
Rather muggy for Alpine. It's been funky for several days, but this morning was weird. It was 70 degrees - 70% humidity, Then, it actually got cooler...and a little breezy. Then it was sunny, cloudy, sunny, cloudy, muggy. It think there is rain south of us right now, but I am not sure if it's headed this way or not. Don't care....doesn't matter.
Let's see...what happened today. Worked (of course) nothing drastic. Will have the same crap tomorrow. Good for business. Oh...don't know if I mentioned that we had found some funky (the word of the day) metal framed tiles that were perfect for one of our projects! The owner here had bought some small Mexican style painted tiles, with numbers, that she wanted on each of the cabin doors. We have been trying to figure out the best way to attach these so they - 1. wouldn't just plain fall off - 2. would withstand slamming of the doors by guests - 3. look attractive. These tiles fit the bill. We just turned them (the original tile in the frame) around, revealing the black tile and used floor adhesive to attach our numbered tiles in the center of the black tile. We smeared clear acrylic caulk around the tile (for any water seepage) and viola!! What a neat looking number plaque!
You can't see it really good in this picture, but we have some repair to do on the door. I know, most people would have done that first...but we are just not that smart! We'd rather go back and finish it properly...later!
It's OK... we have more plans for the door itself, so for right now....this looks a whole lot better than what was there!
This is our Montana Sarah room...aaaaahhh...
the memories this must hold!
Today was also 'old lady day' at Beall's. Those of us 50 and over (sob sob) have the special privilege of getting an additional 20% off the entire purchase on our very own day! First Tuesday of every month...or whenever Beall's needs more customers. Guess what, I don't need anything...but Bobbie and Raven did...so they used my card (which is great cuz I used their 40% coupon on Sunday - go figure, it depends on who has money and when...) and they saved quite a bit today. It also makes more sense to buy the clearance stuff and get the additional 20% discount over and above. Well...it makes sense to me. You can get some really fantastic prices if you just look. Since they are our only 'department store' it's them...or ALCO. And you know what a shopper I am (remember..Amazon Queen??). There are truly better deals at Bealls. They only carry clothing, shoes, accessories...I know I have said all this before.
I have so much stuff that I have never even worn. I think the best thing to do on next 'old lady day' is start finding fall clothing...perhaps a jacket or long sleeved stuff. Not necessarily work stuff.
Home Alone is on. It's a cute movie. I got a great catalog today with really cute Christmas ornaments. You know me by now. I have great plans to make some Christmas stuff (and these would be really, really cute as felt ornaments). I need to quit procrastinating. I think that was on my New Year's Resolution List! Wonder where I put that damn thing...I do have my TO DO list right here beside me, but that's a whole 'nother animal!
Maybe I should start a Christmas Craft Show To DO list! What a great idea! Wait...I did that last year and I sucked at it. Oh...I made a ton of stuff...I just didn't finish the BIG projects...remember the Teddy Bears?? I rest my case.
I think I sign off for now and watch the movie. The list can wait! See ya later!

Holy Smokes...it's been days!
Isn't it amazing how time flies? Seriously. I have finally gotten over that 'lost blog episode' which seems like it was yesterday...and not 2 weeks ago!
I have been so busy. Which is a good thing. And this weather! We got days of rain and everything is so green and lush...for the moment...the flowers and shrubs around town think it's spring. They are beautiful.
Husband and I catered a Meet and Greet for the local officials two Saturdays ago, whatever day that was. We did it last year, too, and I guess they liked what we did...cuz we did it again! We made the usual meat and cheese platters; fruit tray (my personal favorite - cantelope, pineapple, green and red seedless grapes, strawberries, blueberries, oranges, yumm!); Husband made a cream cheese spread with finely minced red onion, capers, minced garlic and parsley (tasty); let's see what else...oh yeah...brownies with toasted pecans; miscellaneous crackers; tortilla rollups; vegetable platter with ranch dressing; sweet tea with lemon...I think that's about it. One of our councilmen who owns a bar here donated a 16 gallon keg of beer! It was a nice gathering. Quite a few of the officials including the Mayor, Sheriff, Chief of Police, County Judges along with city council and county commissioners were there. Considering the fact it started raining like a spotted ass ape 15 minutes before it started and continued to rain all through it...the turnout was good.
Last year we had it here at the Lodge and it was hotter than hell. And a trillion flies! This year we had it at the civic center, inside - air conditioning - it was much nicer. Anyway, it was fun.
Lots of fireworks going off last night. When we first moved here, the first 4th of July was amazing. Lots of people shooting them off, Huge displays everywhere around us. But it has been less and less every year since. It seems people are just not spending money on non essentials. Can't blame them! I don't either. So last night was kind of surprising, as there was a lot of activity for several hours. It was quite prettY.
It's been busier here since the weather has been cooler. People don't seem to be bothered as much by the rain as they do by the extreme heat. However, I see by our local weather that the high 90's are back in the forecast. Oh well.
We have a new girl working here. That's all I have to say right now.
There is nothing on TV. Nothing. At all. To Kill a Mockingbird is coming on again at 9. That has possibilities. I may just take a shower and go to bed. I washed clothes after work. I didn't realize it had been so long! I can tell how long by how much underwear is in there. Disgusting, huh! Well, I do wear the same jeans a few days in a row, so I can't count them!! Let's just say I haven't washed clothes in quite a while! Part of the problem was the rain. I'd get done working, and even though I only have to walk 500 feet, it was - do I want to start washing and have to walk in the rain? Will it let up? Do I want to carry the dry stuff in the rain? Screw it...I'll just count my underwear...yep! got plenty! We were getting so many showers - intermittant and HEAVY rain - it wasn't worth it.
But now I have clean stuff - clean sheets - in within the hour, I, too, will be clean!
I guess I'll close now and take that shower...I have 15 minutes til Gregory Peck!
Sleep well!

Sleep well!
